The Value of Traveling

Traveling with your family, especially if you have children, can be overwhelming. Even though it gets easier the more you do it, challenges will arise whenever you travel with children.

As parents, we want our children to have a wonderful experience. We should enjoy exploring the world and creating memories with our children that will last a lifetime.

Traveling is also a great way to improve our health, broaden our horizons, improve our communication skills, learn about other cultures, and is very beneficial to the development of our children.

Here are some family travel tips:

  • Don't over pack. If you find you’re missing something you need, you can always buy it at your destination. Only bring the essentials.

  • Plan an itinerary. Plan your destination ahead of time, including your hotels, your plane tickets, and restaurant.

  • Bring a travel journal. Keeping a journal will help the children remember the trip in more detail and will also help them start to get a better idea of what types of things they like to do when traveling. This knowledge can help with planning future trips.

  • Give kids your contact information. For children, the best way to share contact information is with a note in one of their pockets. If they don’t have pockets, tie a little card to their belt loop or stick it in their shoe. Don’t be afraid to get creative, but make sure your child knows where to find it.

  • Bring snacks. You never know how long you might have to wait between meals. There could be a delayed flight, unexpected traffic getting to your hotel, or a tour that takes a bit longer than you thought it would.

  • Financial. You have your "don't touch money", it goes with insurance taxes and your savings. And you have the "spend my money" that goes with housing, rental, hotels, food and transportation, and fun. Think of spending it in a creative way.

What We Learn When We Travel

Travel is one of life’s greatest teachers. It pulls you out of your comfort zone and it helps you develop virtues like patience and humility.

It's not just fun but it can also motivate our children to learn more languages, to appreciate different cultures, and self-growth. When you travel, you never stop learning.

It undoubtedly takes courage to pack up your family and hit the road to an unfamiliar place, but the benefits are extraordinary. It can completely change the way you look at the world and make you a much happier person in general.

Here are some of the best benefits of traveling you should know about:

  • Mentally and physically healthy. Traveling may enhance your general physical fitness and make you more mentally agile. All in all, traveling has a positive effect on both your mind and body.

  • Life skills. Traveling opens your kids’ minds to how other people live. Seeing and experiencing another culture firsthand can be eye-opening, as it demonstrates not just the differences but the similarities.

  • It can improve your communication skills. Traveling to a new place can help you become more flexible when communicating. You come up with creative ways to illustrate your thoughts, and surprisingly, communicate in a foreign language.

  • You make priceless memories. We create memories with our kids no matter where we are or what we’re doing. But traveling offers that extra context or unique sensory experience that helps sear memories in our brains.

We should go on adventures whenever we can, wherever we can, and at whatever age we can. It's an unforgettable experience for both adults and children. Just because we’ve left school doesn’t mean our education stops. Learning keeps us young, and travel is one of the greatest teachers of all.
